Stitch Your Pride: International Transgender Day of Visibility

Today is International Transgender Day of Visibility, and in celebration we decided to design a cute crochet hat for you to stitch up to show your pride and solidarity. Trans Flag Crochet Hat

YARN Kelbourne Woolens Germantown (100% wool; 220 yds/ 100gm skein): old blue (MC), pink (CC1), natural (CC2), 1 skein each. GAUGE 4 shells and 7 rounds = 4.5” in shell pattern on larger hook. 13 sts and 20 rounds = 4” in single crochet on smaller hook. HOOKS 1 – US H/8 (5 mm) hook. 1 – US I/9 (5.5 mm) hook. NOTIONS Stitch marker, tapestry needle. SIZE 18.5” brim circumference SKILLS Single crochet in rounds. Abbreviations Ch: Chain Dc: Double crochet dc sh: Double Crochet Shell - 3 dc, ch1 pm: place marker Sc: Single crochet Sl st: Slip stitch Sp(s): space DIRECTIONS Set-up: Using MC and larger hook, ch5 and join into a ring with a sl st. Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc into ring, ch 1, *dc sh into center of ring; rep from * 4 times more, join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3, work 2 sl st across next 2 dc – 5 dc sh. Do not turn, cont working in the rnd with the same side facing. TOP INCREASES: Rnd 2: into first ch-1 sp, *dc sh twice into next ch-1 sp from prev rnd; rep from * 3 times more, join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3, work 2 sl st across 2 dc – 10 dc sh. Rnd 3: Using CC1 into first ch-1 sp, *dc sh into next ch-1 sp from prev rnd, dc sh twice in next ch-1 sp from prev rnd; rep from * 3 times more, join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3, work 2 sl st across next 2 dc – 15 dc sh. Rnd 4: into first ch-1 sp, *dc sh into each of next 2 ch-1 sps from prev rnd, dc sh twice in next ch-1 sp; rep from * 3 times more, join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3, work 2 sl st across next 2 dc – 20 dc sh. BODY: Rnd 5: Join CC2, into first ch-1 sp, dc sh in each of next 19 ch-1 sps, join with a sl st to top of beg ch 3, work 2 sl st across next 2 dc. Rep Rnd 5 2x more. Rnd 8-9: Using CC1 rep Rnd 5 2x. Rnd 10-11: Using MC rep Rnd 5 2x. BRIM: Change to smaller hook. Pm for beg of rnd. Work 1 sc in each dc around – 60 sc. Work in sc until brim meas 1.75”. Sl st into next st. Fasten off.
