Edible Philly and Cake Life Bakeshop co-hosted a Community Bake Sale to support the fight for immigrant rights in Philadelphia. Amateur and professional bakers alike provided baked goods and treats for sale.vLearn more about this nationwide effort here. 

The Philly Bake Sale will directly benefitted Juntos, a community-led, Latine immigrant organization in South Philadelphia fighting for human rights as workers, parents, youth, and immigrants.

The Banned Wagon came to Philadelphia in the fall of '25! A mobile library from Penguin Random House, this truck full of banned books was on tour October 5–11 during Banned Book Week. The project raises awareness about censorship and celebrates the freedom to read.This year’s route focuses on just two cities—Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.—chosen for their central role in American democracy. At each stop, visitors can browse 30 challenged titles, pick up free copies (while supplies last), and even spark more donations by scanning the QR code on the truck. Learn more here!

While there are social service agencies in the Philadelphia area that help low-income families obtain housing, few can help families turn their housing into functional and comfortable homes. Without proper furniture, children must sleep on the floor, sofas, or crowded into bed with several family members. Sleeping arrangements such as these often lead to poor sleep, which goes hand-in-hand with poor health and poor school performance. ​OHAAT’s Beds for Kids program helps to bridge this gap, delivering beds, bedding, and tools that encourage healthy bedtime habits directly to the homes of children in need. Many of you may know (virtually or IRL) Jaime Jennings, one of the founders of Fancy Tiger Crafts. She now works for the Continental Divide Trail Coalition, an organization that advocates in congress for public lands, builds and maintains trails, and elevates gateway communities.

We hosted a food drive at our brick-and-mortar shop in Philadelphia, to support our community via the Germantown Community Fridge during the SNAP funding crisis. We're proud to be a certified drop off location in 2026 and will be making weekly donations to the 20 W Armat St location.

Did you know that National Geographic has an Artisan Fund Launched in 2007, it supports the artisan communities where National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions explores.Their first initiative was The Greenlandic Sheep Wool Project. Partnering with local educator and artisan Ellen Frederiksen, the project provided equipment to the Qassiarsuk community to process wool, train artisans, and create blankets, mittens, and yarn for sale to locals and visitors.Learn more here!

A plane crash in NE Philly on January 31st, 2025, claimed all the lives onboard and left others severely injured. 

We are sharing GoFundMe for 9-year-old Ramsses, who was badly hurt and lost his father in the accident. 10-year-old Andre Howard was also seriously injured as he attempted to shield his 4-year-old sister from the blast—and now faces a long and difficult road to recovery.  

Please keep Philadelphia in your thoughts as the Northeast community mourns, repairs, and recovers from this devastating tragedy.

PAWS, one of Philadelphia’s most vital animal welfare organizations, was forced to evacuate their Gray's Ferry location in April 2026 due to a nearby structural collapse.Thankfully, all animals at the facility were swiftly and safely evacuated. However, their Grays Ferry clinic will remain closed until further notice. You can support PAWS during this time by making a donation here. An episode of the Kitchen Sisters Podcast introduced us to the incredible Sew Their Names Project, a quilting project in the rural Black Belt of Alabama. This amazing project brings communities together in the spirit of truth and reconciliation, to commemorate the erased and forgotten lives of enslaved persons by stitching their names into memorial quilts. ​Read more about the project and browse the photo gallery here.
