Introducing Keystone, the newest addition to the beloved Germantown family from Kelbourne Woolens.
Built for real-life and made to last, Keystone is a classic, easy-care worsted weight yarn that perfectly blends practicality with purpose. Designed for knitters and crocheters who want dependable quality without compromising on values, Keystone is crafted from a thoughtful blend of 70% deadstock acrylic, and 30% North American wool. The result? A soft, sturdy, and versatile yarn as ideal for baby garments and dog sweaters as it is for heirloom afghans or community outreach projects.
Why North American wool? Dyeing raw fiber is just one step in the multi part process of manufacturing Germantown. By blending the same wool that is used in Germantown with the deadstock acrylic, we're expanding the use of the fiber, which in turn, reduces waste and increases supply chain efficiency.
Why deadstock? When sourcing the raw materials for an easy-care, affordable yarn, we took great care when considering the acrylic. Working directly with the mill that makes Germantown, we're utilizing more than 59,000 pounds of acrylic fiber abandoned in their warehouse. This is fiber that would otherwise have gone to waste or ended up in a landfill.
Keystone is proudly 100% made in the USA, supporting domestic manufacturing, bypassing tariffs, and championing sustainability. By using surplus deadstock materials, we’re helping reduce waste in the textile industry and giving new life to existing resources. Keystone is a yarn that works hard for your projects and makes practical use of what’s already available.

from 362 reviewsI was so impressed with the drape, the weight, and feel of this yarn. I knitted a summer top and this yarn is perfect for transitional weather garments. I can't wait to knit something else in it.
Very fun to have everything I needed to knit Cordelia all packaged up for me! I absolutely love Germantown DK and the Indigo color is the perfect deep blue.
Cordelia Hat Pattern
Scout is about as perfect as it gets. Wish it came in more colors and was more readily available. Hate that they appear to be phasing it out.
The Oberon kit is a great hat kit. Love the tag included and the stickers.
I’m very much enjoying knitting this Cordelia hat! I ordered the color Persian Red and it’s perfect. The kit came with yarn, stitch markers (one in a different color to use for BOR), a darning needle, some stickers, and a hat tag. The hat is turning out great, this kit is a lot of fun!
I adore this yarn. I’ve used it on three projects, and have loved it every time. The colors are beautiful. The finished product is light, flexible and yarn. It really has been my go-to for any piece of clothing that I want to wear daily. Thank you, Kelbourne Woolens for making such an awesome yarn that I want to use over and over again!
I’ve been knitting with Germantown for a while and thought I’d try the DK. It’s a lovely yarn, a pleasure to work with. The colors are really eye catching.
I recently found out about this type of cotton. Did a swatch & it's so soft. Looking forward to making a summer top.
Definitely would order this again from this yarn store!
The yarn was a perfect match for a hat/mitt project I was undertaking. The yarn was a dream to knit with because it was so gentle and the ply was soft . Pick up was great too! While I enjoy shopping in your store, I was under a time crunch with work, making pick up helpful.
I totally enjoyed the kit and knitting the first in the series of year of hats. The pattern is fun and of course the yarn is great to work with
I love this yarn. I’ve previously made an Ilha sweater by Orlane Suche for my mom in the color Crocus. I’ve just purchased a yarn quantity to hold two strands together and knit the Lucy Cardigan by the Knit Purl Girl. I already love this yarn’s softness and bloom and the color variation. It’s also super lightweight yarn, and paired with its bloom, I get a lot of meterage for the money.
I absolutely love this pattern! I knitted it in a sport weight light gray alpaca with a strand of slightly darker gray mohair, and it came out warm and fluffy. Kudos to the pattern maker and to all at Kelbourne Woolens!
Beautiful, rich color. Super soft fingering weight yarn. This yarn makes me love baby alpaca even more than I did before. Has just the tiniest bit of fuzziness to it, but great durability. Please carry this yarn forever!
Like almost all of your year of hats patterns this is really cute hat. I haven’t yet knit it, the queue is long! I did read through the directions found them to be clear and the charts to be excellent. I look forward to the rest of the DK hats patterns and using a number of them for charity hats or grandkids or great nieces and nephews for Christmas next year.

Kate and Courtney met while working in a local yarn store in Philadelphia, PA; Courtney was a new mom and Kate was in her final year of grad school. Together they founded Kelbourne Woolens at Kate's kitchen table, and have been working side by side ever since.
