Year of (Bulky) Hats: Sedgwick by Courtney Kelley

The latest design in our Year of Bulky Hats is here! Sedgwick is an oh-so-jaunty beret perfect for transitioning to May weather.

Do you know that feeling when you're trying to do something that you know should work, but it just keeps not working? That has been this hat. From the first draft design I knew it was going to be good, but it just wasn't quite right. I spent a long time reworking this darn thing, and finally it clicked! Worked from the top down using my favorite cast on, Emily Ocker's cast-on, it creates a perfect little circle of stitches that you can cinch closed in the most satisfying way. The chart is worked in three segments, and makes a very attractive trefoil when viewed from the top. I think she's just perfect!
A beret is the perfect accessory for spring - especially in this super cheerful color of Germantown Bulky, wild rose. Pair it with a jean jacket, sundress, and booties - YES, PLEASE. Springtime knits forever!

Kelbourne Woolens Germantown Bulky: wild rose 835, 1 skein.
GAUGE
13 sts and 20 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in Chevron Pattern on larger ndls, after blocking.
NEEDLES
1 – 16” (40 cm) US 9 (5.5 mm) circular.
1 – 16” (40 cm) US 10 (6 mm) circular.
1 – set US 10 (6 mm) DPNs.
Check your gauge and adjust needle size(s) accordingly if necessary.
NOTIONS
Stitch marker, tapestry needle, Kelbourne Woolens label.
