What’s better than a free hat pattern? 12 free hat patterns, of course! The Year of Bulky Hats celebrates our Germantown Bulky yarn with 12 free knitting patterns for fun hats using our favorite knitting techniques.
The Fernhill Hat is the original February Hat you know and love, but somehow even squishier! This hat begins with a provisional cast on, then a brim is worked in a K1, P1 Ribbing. After the brim is complete, the body and crown of the hat are worked in a texture stripe pattern from charts. The textured stitches look great in Germantown Bulky, and the patterns are repetitive and easy to memorize. A pom pom and custom leather tag complete the look.

Camper is a great yarn! I love the way it feels, the texture of the spin is consistent and knits up to a beautiful fabric. And, I haven't had any tangles or twists in my skeins. I bought the color-way Orchid Heather; its such a beautifully nuanced color choice. The color and yarn combo give the final product an irresistible sheen.
I bought Germantown because it was recommended for the Herman the Hermit Crab pattern. I’m just learning to crochet. Germantown is a twisted fiber of 4 strands twisted together and I find it difficult to work with because the 4 strands keep separating. Might be due to being a beginner but it is frustrating. Also priced pretty high so the Hermit Crab costs $64 to make… kinda pricey IMO.
I’ve knit two sweaters with Lucky Tweed—so I’m pretty sure I “know” the yarn, but being able to see and feel the yarn is the best. In fact, I’ll be adding at least 2 more lucky tweed sweaters to my wardrobe this winter! Thank you for making them available.

I am currently crocheting a sweater with the blue heather yarn and I love it!! I had previously bought yarn from a store, and I needed to order more online. It shipped very fast, and the customer service was great! Super eager to finish this sweater so I can wear it and show it off!

I bought this wool at a local yarn store and it’s my first experience working with something other than acrylic blend. It’s expensive, but so soft, squishy, easy to work with, and easily worth the price. I would recommend this to anyone!
I bought 3 skeins from Apricot Yarns website which has a big button that says “Would you like your yarn wound” before realizing I’d need more for a project. Somehow found myself on the Kelbourne site direct and while the yarn is absolutely beautiful and I will look to Kelbourne again for future projects, I was pretty dismayed to see that the yarn came in a hank. I don’t have any independent yarn stores nearby and had to hand wind…which went poorly lol. Please make it more obvious how to select winding or consider winding by default. My top the Summer Stream tee which is a free pattern from For The Frills.
