The start of the Flower Garden Blanket is a lovely little button that forms the disc florets that make up the center of the flower. While it may seem like a typical magic ring is the way to go, we recommend taking the extra time to make these little buttons. Your flowers will thank you!
STEP 1 / Wrap yarn loosely around a pencil 12 times so that it overlaps onto itself into a little bundle. STEP 2 / Carefully slide wrapped yarn off of the pencil, pinching the sides of the wraps together while leaving the center open.Note: Don't be discouraged if it take a few tries to do this step. If you don't have a clear center to work in, just unwrap the yarn and try again. Once you've made a few buttons, you'll get the hang of the process and it will become second nature! STEP 3 / Insert the crochet hook into the center of the wrapped yarn bundle and pull a loop through, ch 1. *Insert crochet hook into center of the wrapped yarn, sc; rep from * 12 times.
Note: The first few single crochet will feel a bit awkward as you navigate the wraps. Once you have established the center and have a few single crochet around, working the remaining stitches will become easier and easier.
Join with a sl st to first sc, fasten off.
STEP 4 / Turn button over (working side is the wrong side of the button).
That's it! Once you start making these cuties, you won't be able to stop!
