Description
This graphic, slouchy knit hat is knit in Andorra using stranded colorwork in ink black and snow white. It is the kickoff design in the Year of Gifts collection, and is one of our most popular patterns. Check out it's sister design, the Newbold sweater!
The Snowdrop Hat by Kate Gagnon Osborn begins with a provisional cast on, then a folded brim is worked in a K2, P2 Ribbing. Once the ribbing is complete, the provisional cast on is unpicked and placed on a spare circular needle and the stitches are joined to created a folded brim.
After the brim is complete, the body of the hat is worked in a graphic stranded colorwork pattern from a chart. The chart is worked 5 times around. Decreases shape the crown, and a pom pom and a cute custom KW tag completes the look.

from 259 reviewsThe yarn was a perfect match for a hat/mitt project I was undertaking. The yarn was a dream to knit with because it was so gentle and the ply was soft . Pick up was great too! While I enjoy shopping in your store, I was under a time crunch with work, making pick up helpful.
I totally enjoyed the kit and knitting the first in the series of year of hats. The pattern is fun and of course the yarn is great to work with
I love this yarn. I’ve previously made an Ilha sweater by Orlane Suche for my mom in the color Crocus. I’ve just purchased a yarn quantity to hold two strands together and knit the Lucy Cardigan by the Knit Purl Girl. I already love this yarn’s softness and bloom and the color variation. It’s also super lightweight yarn, and paired with its bloom, I get a lot of meterage for the money.
I absolutely love this pattern! I knitted it in a sport weight light gray alpaca with a strand of slightly darker gray mohair, and it came out warm and fluffy. Kudos to the pattern maker and to all at Kelbourne Woolens!
Beautiful, rich color. Super soft fingering weight yarn. This yarn makes me love baby alpaca even more than I did before. Has just the tiniest bit of fuzziness to it, but great durability. Please carry this yarn forever!
Like almost all of your year of hats patterns this is really cute hat. I haven’t yet knit it, the queue is long! I did read through the directions found them to be clear and the charts to be excellent. I look forward to the rest of the DK hats patterns and using a number of them for charity hats or grandkids or great nieces and nephews for Christmas next year.
This is my first splurge on mohair and I love it. I wish I had bought more, and I certainly will in the future!
This yarn was recommended by my Knitting instructor Allyson and I couldn't be happier. I am a first time knitter of a sweater and this yarn behaves wonderfully. It has a nice feel and holds it's shape well! I see more Germantown in my future!
Thanks again for great patterns well written with charts
Although I haven't had a chance to knit the hat yet, I love the design and deeply appreciate the offer of this free pattern. Other Kelbourne Woolens patterns I have used have always been very well written and are easy to understand, so I have every reason to expect excellent results from this one also.
This was my first purchase from Kelbourne Woolens but, it won’t be my last. The yarn is much softer than I expected and will be perfectly perfect for the January project. I was also looking for a good yarn for the viral felted Sailor slippers. My Christmas list may be knocked out before June!
The Germantown base has such a nice hand, and stitch definition. Love to work with!
This yarn is just so exquisite. The depth of color is absolutely incredible and is even more lovely in person. I can’t wait to cast on my project with it!
Cozy is a wonderfully luxurious, soft yarn. I have pretty sensitive skin and almost always get a bit itchy with 100% animal fibers but Cozy is the exception to that rule. I just started working on a scarf but this yarn would be perfect for a hat or baby garments (it looks like I’ll need to buy more…).
I have been knitting for a year and a half now and I have used yarns I like and yarns I don't but I hadn't found one that I would call a favorite yearn but the Germantown DK has just claimed the spot as my first favorite yarn to work with. It's so soft and squishy and has amazing stitch definition. I will definitely be doing more projects with this yarn in the future.
