Designer Feature: June by Julie Weisenberger (Cocoknits)

At Kelbourne Woolens, post-TNNA is a time to catch up on design premieres we missed while preparing for the trade show. The most recent of these premieres is June by Julie Weisneberger of Cocoknits—her booth was next to ours at TNNA and we got to host (and wear) the gorgeous sample throughout the show!

Unfortunately, we were all so busy we forgot to get a photo of June at TNNA. Whoops! Image: Julie Weisneberger

Julie says, “June is as comfortable and effortless as a T-shirt, but with an elevated bubble-sleeved silhouette. It has a relaxed fit but plenty of shaping to keep it flattering. Because it’s worked from the top down, you can easily play with the length.”

The top is made using Julie’s “Cocoknits Method” making it a breeze for relaxed summer knitting and has two Kelbourne-y yarn recommendations: our Mojave and BC Garn Bio Balance.

We see this sweet tee as a casual beachside top, a chilly office layers, and a cool pairing with your favorite linen skirt or shorts. Julie has a knack for casual elegance and we are delighted she chose two of our favorite yarns for her new design.

June is now in the queue and we have to decide on Mojave or BC Garn Bio Balance. Which one? Do you want to join us in a summer June KAL? Share your projects with us on Instagram—tag us @kelbournewoolens and use the hashtags #JuneKAL and #cocoknits.

Happy June knitting in July!

As Pom Pom’s Instagram post describes, this top is “inspired by ornate, domed ceilings” reminiscent of stunning, old world architecture. Sanctuaryis a top-down, circular yoked sweater tee that’s knitter- and summer-friendly for beach and poolside knitting.

BC Garn Bio Balance: Never Say Goodbye to Sweater Weather

It’s spring in the northern hemisphere, and generally that means saying goodbye to sweater weather, regardless if we’re ready for it or not. My personal stock of knitwear consists of simple, everyday knits that are easy to make and wear, and I always miss my comfortable staples during the warmer months. What I need is the perfect, lightweight sweater that mimics my thicker woolies for the spring, chilly summer nights, and early fall.

The solution: BC Garn Bio Balance, a GOTS- certified 55% organic wool / 45% organic cotton blend and Regina Moessmer’s JANI.

When it comes to simple staple sweaters made in beautiful yarn this combo checks all the boxes for me. This sweater is worked from the top down and in the round, meaning it is the ideal podcast, commuting, TV watching, pub hang out sweater.

The only problem I’m having is selecting a color. Regina’s sample is shown in black, which is my favorite non-color, but I’m debating over Lead for a slight variation from my usual color, or take a giant leap and go for the lovely Marsh.

What do you all think? I can’t decide.

If you’re interested in knitting JANI and want to try out BC Garn Bio Balance, find our list of stockists here.
