It’s that time of year again—the weather is oppressively hot and we’re starting to dream about fall sweater weather season. It’s as if the editors at Interweave could hear our innermost desires, because Interweave Knits Fall 2019 is hot off the presses!
The Wine Press Pullover by Moon Eldridge in Interweave Knits Fall 2019 is made in one of our favorite transitional weather yarns, BC Garn Bio Shetland. It’s a lofty, light fingering weight heathered wool perfect for breathable knits and colorwork of all kinds.
Sometimes that “all kinds” includes intarsia, the cousin of stranded color work yokes seen currently dominating the “Hot Right Now” list on Ravelry. Intarsia occasionally gets a bad rap, but here’s the thing—intarsia is FUN. Really, we promise! Intarsia allows for large block motifs often seen in traditional Cowichan sweaters and 90s throwback sweaters, respectively. This is a color work muscle worth developing so when a beautiful pattern like Moon’s Wine Press Pullover pops onto the scene it’s a project to gleefully cast on without apprehension.
The Wine Press Pullover is worked from the top down in the round making it a breezy stockinette knit, but the most interesting part of this top is the sleeves—obviously! The sleeves are picked up and worked flat from the top down so the intarsia motif is worked back and forth (this is the preferred way to work intarsia). The sleeves are seamed together after blocking, allowing the grape and vine motif to block out flat.
The haze of Bio Shetland lends itself well to pictorial color work creating an impressionist-like result. The captivating still-life grape and vine motif on the sleeves of this pullover blends into the simple stockinette body with sweet reverse stockinette side panels.
We love the silver grey and jasper color ways in the sample. Gray is such a comfort color, but there are so many color options available in Bio Shetland. Which one will you choose?
