See You At TNNA, Part Three: Navia

By Kate Gagnon Osborn on June 14, 2018January 2, 2019

Our 10th Anniversary Year has been filled with new adventures, and this summer and fall we’re thrilled to be bringing you lots of new products we feel good about. In between developing the Kelbourne Woolens line of yarns, this season we are happy to be adding more yarns to our BC Garn offerings for fall, and bringing a new line to the North American market from the Faroe Islands, Navia!  TNNA is a industry-only trade show that happens twice a year, and it’s our opportunity to show our retailers what we have available for them for the upcoming season. We will be in Booth 1013 and if you’re at the show be sure to drop in and say, “Hello!”

NAVIA

The stories we tell and the community of craft.
Navia is a Faroese wool with a story to tell – a story of Nordic and islander tradition and craft. From Tradition – a rugged yarn for hard working seafarers, to Uno – a light and soft yarn, perfect for delicate heirlooms for home and baby, Navia yarns tell the story of the Faroe Islands.

Navia’s story will resonate with the N. American market. It is the story yarn tells, and the risk of losing the long forgotten traditions, that pulls knitters in and makes them listen. American and Canadian knitters are drawn to Fair Isle jumpers, Icelandic lopapeysa, Swedish Bohus sweaters, and Estonian mittens – projects in yarns from places rich in crafting traditions. Navia patterns and yarns will appeal to a niche market searching for history and connection, and the competitive retail pricing, along with the dedication to the local yarn shops, will bring the yarns to the forefront – beyond the allure of their Nordic designs.

Through the offering of yarns and pattern books in English to the N. American market, along with promotion of featured projects and knit-alongs hosted online by Kelbourne Woolens and our partners, we can foster a sense of connection to this tiny island many, many miles away.

Navia yarns contain blends of Australian lambswool, Shetland, and Faroese wool as well as cotton and silk. The range consists of 1-ply, 2-ply, and 3-ply knitting yarns, sock yarn and a traditional Faroese yarn, aptly named Tradition. The Navia designs take inspiration from the traditional Faroese knitting culture, mixed with modern style trends. Navia pattern books will be available through Navia stockists in the fall, so stay tuned! You can view all the yarns here.

Kelbourne Woolens is proud to be partnering with Navia to introduce these yarns, patterns, and stories to North American knitters. Coming September 2018.
