As mentioned previously, Karen Templer of Fringe Association is hosting the Summer of Basics and I’m so excited that the make along has officially begun!
I posted some of my planning as I was preparing for the arrival of June – you can see my original plans here some swatching here, and some ideas for great basic sweaters in The Fibre Co. Terra here. Since my original scheming, though, I have changed my mind about 20 times regarding the sweater I’d like to knit for myself, and a classic Lopapeysa in The Fibre Co. Arranmore keeps trying to weasel its way into my knitting bag. I still need to do some swatching and sketching before that happens, (if I’m being totally honest, my favorite part of the process), so I should have more to share on that in the near(ish) future.
More exciting than my inability to pick a sweater for myself, though, is the potential to win some super awesome prizes! Since my plans evolve around taking an existing pattern and modifying it slightly, we’re thrilled to be sponsoring the Best Modification category. All you need to do is modify the item and share your finished project with us using the hashtags #summerofbasics + #sob17bestmod. The item can be knit, sewn, crocheted, woven, or some random combination! The winner will receive 4 skeins of The Fibre Co’s new yarn for Fall, and I promise it is a perfect garment yarn you are sure to love.
Fringe Association, Grainline Studio, and Fancy Tiger Crafts are sponsoring awesome prizes as well, so be sure to check out their blog or Karen’s post for more information and how to enter.
I’ll be sharing some tips and tricks next week on successful garment making, as well as some suggestions for Kelbourne Woolens patterns that would make great basics. In the mean time, please do let us know if you have any questions and I will be more than happy to try and answer them any way I can.
Happy Making!
