For those who love the craft as much as we do.

Designer Feature: Monterey Tee / Wool Studio Volume II

By Kate Gagnon Osborn on May 30, 2017July 5, 2022

The second issue of Wool Studio, a new digital magazine by the publishers of knit.wear is out, and the spring collection features twelve designs with spring in mind.

I designed the Monterey Tee for the issue, a breezy lace top knit using The Fibre Co. Luma. The tee is worked in pieces from the bottom up and the shoulders are shaped using short rows. Once the front and back are complete, the shoulders are joined using a three needle bind off. After blocking, the sides are seamed and stitches are picked up to work the armhole and neck bands.

The tee features one of my favorite lace patterns, scaled down to better suit the gauge of yarn. The front and back pieces are worked differently so that the pattern looks seamless once the pieces are joined together, but the ease is consistent across all sizes. The combination of lace, positive ease, and structure from the seaming makes for a lovely top that is flattering and comfortable to wear.

SPECIFICATIONS
Yarn:
 The Fibre Co. Luma: willow: 4 (5, 6, 7, 7, 8) skeins.
Gauge: 20 sts and 27 rows = 4″ in lace patt, after blocking.
Needles: Size 4 (3.5 mm)
Size: 31.75 (37.25, 42.75, 48.25, 54.25, 59.75)” bust circumference. Top shown measures 42.75″; modeled with 8.75″ of positive ease.

You can view the lookbook for the collection here, it is available to purchase as a whole via Interweave here, or by clicking the “Purchase Now” links on the individual pages. You can view, heart, and queue it on Ravelry here. As an additional feature of the digital magazine, there is also a great video of the sweater in action here!
