Swatching

Swatching: Hygge Scheepjes CAL

After Vito was born, I faced a rough recovery that forced me to rest in bed for way longer than I expected. While browsing Instagram in a futile effort to kill time, I happened upon the Hygge Scheepjes CAL after the always-wonderful Cal Patch bought a kit and shared it on her Instagram.

While the kit looked awesome, I knew that The Fibre Co. Acadia would make an amazing crocheted wrap. I quickly set to work swatching using as many colors as I could get my hands on.

For the first swatch (shown above on the right), I used a 4 mm hook and tried to match the colors as shown in the “jewel” palette as much as possible. My gauge was too loose, though, and I didn’t love how much the white (egret) popped as compared to the other colors. For my second swatch, I went down to a 3.5mm and switched out the Egret for Mussel, a nice bluey-purple. The end result was exactly what I hoped!

SPECIFICATIONS
Pattern: Hygge Scheepjes CAL 2017
Hook: (L) 3.5mm / (R) 4.5mm
Gauge: (L) 19 dc and 19 rows = 4″ (10 cm) / (R) 17 dc and 18 rows = 4″ (10 cm)

The pattern is free and was released over the course of 14 weeks beginning on February 15th. I’m slowly plugging away on the project, but have put no pressure on myself to finish in a “set” time – its so nice to not have a deadline to work under! Many people are sharing their progress on Ravelry and on Instagram using the hashtag #scheepjescal2017. There are so many amazing projects!

Have any of you started (or finished!) your Hygge?
