There’s nothing more exciting than seeing what comes out of a new generation of knitters. I am happy to share this super cute hat design called Last Lavender by budding designer Jessica Gingerich.
I asked Jessica to tell us about her design experience in her own words.
“I learned to knit on YouTube a little over two years ago, driven by my creative nature and the increasingly low quality clothing in stores. With knitting, I had finally found my “passion.” I was at YarnSong when the inspiration for “Last Lavender” hit me. It was the month of August and our order of Cumbria fingering had just arrived. Upon unboxing the skeins, the color that stood out to me the most was “Castlerigg,” it reminded me of the lavender buds that were appearing in my garden back home. They were the buds of my second, and likely the last, crop of the season.
At the same time, Kelbourne Woolens had just launched their “Year of Mittens,” series. My boss, knowing that I was an aspiring designer, suggested that I design some hats to coordinate with the mittens. And so, by using the simple cable and moss stitch from the “August Mitten” as a starting point, a new hat was born.”
This hat is so cute and wearable. You can see it in person at YarnSong in Plaistow, NH or you can get the pattern on Ravelry.
Keep it up, girl! We can’t wait to see you design next!
