HI Courtney,
I’m knitting your Stone Point poncho. It’s a great pattern but I don’t understand how you got the length gauge you did on a size 7 needle? I owned a yarn shop for 12 years and do a ton of knitting. I’m also a "thrower" not a "picker". However, I had to go up to a size 9 needle to get the width gauge and, that being said, I’m still short at least a whole repeat in length. Does this yarn expand that much when it’s wet-blocked? I’m trying to get a few extra skeins from WEBS but I’m afraid they may not have my dye lot any more. I’m not the only one who has encountered this problem. Can you enlighten me, please?
Thank you,
Kathy Morrow
Hi Kathy! The gauge in the pattern is the wet blocked gauge, and it does change considerably when blocked due to the cotton content. We ALWAYS recommend wet blocking swatches if you intend to wash your garment as the size will alter with washing. I used 3 skeins for the front of the poncho, and three for the back and the 7th skein is for working the neck. I hope that helps.
