#09 Fair Isle Cowl (Geometric Cowl), Vogue Knitting Fall 2016

Vogue is hosting a Knit-Along for the cowl as part of their upcoming VK Live event in Minneapolis. I’ll be attending VK Live, and I’ll be casting on for this lovely cowl shortly – as soon as I finish my sweater for our Spring collection!

Option A:

Option B:

I’ll be using two of our new Fall colors of The Fibre Co. Acadia, Jack Pine or Thunder Bay (I can’t decide!) and Rosebay, with Sand as my background neutral.

If you’ll be attending VK Live in Minneapolis be sure to join myself, Gudrun, and Mary Jane Mucklestone on Sunday November 6th at 12:30 for a meet-up and KAL closing party!

Want a chance to win some of The Fibre Co.’s Acadia to make your own Fair Isle cowl? Let us know in the comments which colors of Acadia you’d use, and just for fun, let me know if you think I should use Jack Pine or Thunder Bay! We’ll choose one winner on Monday October 3rd.

I think you should use Thunder Bay! Actually I love that combo and would choose them for myself to compliment my navy coat!

  4. Danielle B says:

I’d use Jack Pine and Orange Storm with Driftwood for the neutral if it was for me. Of the two combinations you’ve picked, I’d go with Thunder Bay. I think it’s better with the Rose Bay than the green of Jack Pine.

  5. Kevin Griffin says:

I would use the Thunder Bay option and think you should as well…that groupng of colors is going to look great!

    1. Thanks Kevin, and thanks for the nice tweet earlier!

  6. Cynthia Escamilla says:

I personally would use Thunder Bay because that color combination would match my clothing best. I think you should choose colors for accessories to either complement or accent your existing wardrobe.

  7. Theresa says:

I love the Thunder Bay combination! I think I would make one with Egret, Summersweet and Butterfly Bush.

  8. Andrea says:

Thunderbay because it goes with more skin tones than Jack. I’d also make it in Thunderbay, because with olive skin tone of look like an alien in the green of Jack.

  9. Corlene says:

Courtney, I love the Thunder Bay combo for you. For myself, I would use Mussel, Kelp and Egret…what a lovely pattern. I wish I was able to attend VKL Minneapolis but I will be definitely be at VKL NY.

Hmm – I keep thinking I’ve settled on a colorway, but then a few more spring to mind. So, either: Blue Heron, Rose Bay, and Mountain Ash, or Poppy, Cormorant, and Egret.

  28. Cindy says:

    Love both color sets😀

Thunder Bay all the way, for both of us, as the name of the city I live in is Thunder Bay!!! It was clearly meant to be!

  42. Martha says:

    Martha
I would choose option. B, blue is my favorite color, plus Rose Bay, Sand ,ultimate fall colors,

  43. Kristina Karpinski says:

Pick option B! You could consider to use a gray color instead of the blue.

  44. Linda A says:

Option B with Thunder Bay is my pick. Bet it will be very pretty together.

I’m not very practiced with selecting colors that might work well together but I’m wondering if Rose Bay, Mountain Ash, and Kelp would work?
Would love to hear more from you about what to consider when choosing colors that
    pair well in Fair Isle.

  45. Nancy says:

It’s a beautiful cowl, Courtney, and it looks like a lot of fun to knit. I would personally opt for the Jack Pine. The green of Jack Pine would make a beautiful complement to Rose Bay, and all three colors would work together magnificently! It all spells nature at its best!

  46. Kula Lescault says:

I would pick Jack Pine for Courtney’s cowl.

But, I would pick the following colors to knit the cowl:

    Poppy
    Sand
    Orange Storm
From your expertise with colors and knitting do you think these colors would work well together?

I very much enjoy your internet site and your e-mails.
    It is a beautiful cowl.
