As mentioned yesterday, we put together a 9 piece collection that showcases the best of what authentic Donegal yarns have to offer: classic shapes, lovely cables, timeless colorwork, and easy pieces you’ll want to turn to time and time again.
There are three garments in the collection that were designed to be classic, timeless, forever basics that never go out of style:
BURTONPORT: The go-anywhere, do anything, pullover.
Burtonport is meant to be worn with plenty of positive ease for a comfortable fit, perfect for layering. It is knit in pieces and seamed, and the neck band is picked up and knit afterwards. This is an easy to knit pattern, perfect for a first sweater.
SPECIFICATIONS
YARN: The Fibre Co. Arranmore: Brannagh, 6 (7, 8) skeins.
GAUGE: 15 sts + 24 rows = 4” (10 cm) in seed stitch on larger ndls, after blocking. 17 sts + 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in K2, P2 Ribbing on smaller ndls, after blocking.
NEEDLES:
1 – US 7 (4.5 mm) 24” (60 cm) circular or pair straights.
1 – US 7 (4.5 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular.
1 – US 8 (5.00 mm) 24” (60 cm) circular or pair straights.
NOTIONS: Locking stitch markers, tapestry needle, stitch holder or waste yarn.
SIZE: 44.75 (50.25, 59.75)” [113.75 (127.25, 151.75) cm] finished bust. Sweater is designed to be worn with at least 6-10” (15-25 cm) of positive ease. Please see schematic for more detailed finished measurements.

KILLYBEGS: The only cardigan you’ll ever need.
The fronts and back of Killybegs are worked in pieces and seamed. The sleeves are knit in the round to the underarms, and the set-in sleeves are worked back and forth. After the fronts and back are joined, the collar and button band are picked up and worked in twisted rib. Short-row shaping creates the shawl collar.
SPECIFICATIONS
YARN: The Fibre Co. Arranmore (80% merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% silk; 175 yds/100 gm skein): Meara, 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7) skeins.
GAUGE: 14 sts + 22 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st, after blocking.
NEEDLES: 1 – 24” (60 cm) or 40” (100 cm) US 6 (4 mm) circular, 1 set US 6 (4 mm) DPNs, 1 – 24” (60 cm) or 40” (100 cm) US 8 (5 mm) circular, 1 set US 8 (5 mm) DPNs.
NOTIONS: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, stitch holders or waste yarn, 4 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5) – 1 3/8” buttons.
SIZE: 36 (40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60)” [91 (102, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152) cm] finished bust. Sweater is designed to be worn with 4” (10 cm) positive ease. Please see schematic for more detailed finished measurements.

CARROWKEEL: The most perfect, cosiest, turtleneck.
The body and sleeves of Carrowkeel are worked flat in pieces from the bottom up. Compound raglan decreases shape the yoke, and short rows at the top of the sleeves help shape the neck. After completing the pieces, the sweater is seamed together using mattress stitch, and stitches are picked up to work the turtleneck in the round. While the body is designed with plenty of ease, the sleeves and yoke are designed with less ease for a more flattering fit.

NEEDLES: 1 – 24” (60 cm) US 8 (5 mm) circular or pair straights, 1 – 24” (60 cm) US 6 (4 mm) circular or pair straights, 1 – 16” (40 cm) US 6 circular.
NOTIONS: Stitch marker, tapestry needle, cable needle.
SIZE: 38.25 (43, 46.25, 51, 55.5, 59, 63.5)” [97 (109.25, 117.5, 129.5, 141, 149.75, 161.25) cm] bust. Sweater is designed to be worn with about 6” (15.25 cm) positive ease at the chest. (See notes.)
