“These gems have life in them; their colors speak, say what words fail of” -George Eliot.
The way the silk, cashmere, camel and baby alpaca fibers hold dye and reflect light make Road to China Light one of the most beautiful yarns around. The colors are deep and saturated, or soft and heathered and all have a lovely luster. They have an intriguing duo-tone quality that gives the yarn a shimmering quality, not unlike that of a faceted jewel. This incredible color is the inspiration for the names of the colors and for the name of the line itself.
While most of us can’t afford to go around dripping in diamonds, there are little luxuries all around us that we can partake in: treasures found at craft fairs, spices at the market, neighborhood azaleas in full bloom, incredible vistas from the car window, a great project using the softest yarn….
I think Romi Hill’s Buttonwillow Wrap is a perfect example of a luxury project using Road to China Light. It’s engaging, yet relaxing to make and an absolute dream to wear. This wrap is definitely on my to-knit list and I am having trouble choosing between Rhodolite, Topaz, and Lapis (and many others too but I had to narrow it down to three).
