Hydrangea Mystery, Revealed!

Our 2015 Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) is over, and the results are stunning. We are overwhelmed by the positive response we received this year, with over 500 participants, and over 130 projects currently on Ravelry. As always, our Ravelry group was lively and fun, and we have lots of lovely finished Hydrangea Shawls to share with you!

The MKALs are a lot of fun, and a lot of work, so it’s always a thrill at the end to be able to admire everyone’s hard work. This year’s design has over 30 pages of content – the pattern itself, both written and charted, and an in-depth study on knitting technique and the design process. While the pattern itself is fairly straightforward, we delve deep into the how’s and why’s of each element of the shawl. The goal of our MKAL is always to advance one’s knitting skill and create better lace knitters.

So, without further ado, here are some of our favorites!

This year’s MKAL is influenced by Faroese Shawls, which have a decorative center panel, as well as unique shoulder shaping which helps keep the shawl in place. This was crucial, as I wanted to design a small shawl using less than one skein of The Fibre Co. Meadow, and I knew it would be difficult to make a small shawlette stay put! The butterfly wing shaping of these shawls allows it to stay draped around the wearer as they move.

Even though the mystery is over, we hope you will be inspired to make a Hydrangea Shawl for yourself. The pattern is now available for pdf download here on Ravelry.

Happy Knitting!
