Color Stories, Crochet Summer

Color Stories: Crochet Summer: Shell Pink

Now that we are rolling into Summer, it’s high time I put some serious thought into Crochet! For me (a beginner), Crochet is romantic and sweet and a bit mysterious. It reminds me of my grandmother’s sweeping crocheted lace shawls that she would drape over the back of the davenport and of the lovely little airy tops you can find in a booth at the antique flea market. Another one of the reasons that I love crochet is that it reminds me of finely-rendered, geometric hand drawings because of the nature of crochet stitches and how they build onto one another; crochet seems to bloom, rather than stack row upon row like knitting.

Daydreaming of vintage lace tops, late afternoon drawing sessions, shore walks, wildflowers, and hazy sunsets made making this inspiration board a real treat.

This mood board is inspiring me to use Savannah, a blend of wool, cotton, linen, and soya, in the color pink grapefruit.  This yarn has really nice stitch definition and has such a great hand after blocking.

Here’s a little granny square swatch I made to practice for the project I’m working on this summer.

I’m going to make this sweater, 214ss-04 Sora Motif Sweater by Pierrot. It’s free, easy, and a great pattern for beginners.

I’ve been incredibly inspired by the #crochetsummer2015 posts. Keep it up – we love seeing what you create!
