This week, we’re happy to announce the release of our second collection supporting Road to China Lace, the Effortless Collection. A different direction than Pathways (no pun intended), when Leah and I designed the Effortless Collection, we wanted to feature garter stitch in three different shapes, with three different uses of color.
CLEARVIEW COWL:
Designed by Leah McGlone, the Clearview Cowl is a wide tubular cowl knit in the round using 1 end of alternating colors of Road to China Lace. Although simple garter stitch, the use of 2 colors knit at a looser gauge makes for a really beautiful, ephemeral cowl that appears much more complicated than it is.
YARN: The Fibre Company Road to China Lace (65% baby alpaca, 15% silk, 10% camel + 10% cashmere; 656 yds/100 gm skein): rhodolite (C1) and grey pearl (C2), 1 skein each.
GAUGE: 22 sts + 42 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in Garter St, after blocking.
NEEDLES: 1 – 36” (90 cm) US 4 (3.5 mm) circular.
NOTIONS: Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
SIZE: 46” (116.75 cm) circumference, 12” (30.5 cm) height.
SKILLS: Knitting and purling in the round.
SILVERWOOD SHAWL:
Designed by Kate Gagnon Osborn, the Silverwood Shawl is a really simple take on a classic triangular shawl. The body of the shawl is worked with 2 strands of 2 colors held together, and then the edging is worked with 2 strands of just one color held together. A classic, wearable piece, the fabric has both weight and loft and incredible warmth.
YARN: The Fibre Company Road to China Lace (65% baby alpaca, 15% silk, 10% camel + 10% cashmere; 656 yds/100 gm skein): pewter (C1) and grey pearl (C2), 1 skein each.
GAUGE: 17 sts + 38 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Garter st with yarn doubled, after blocking.
NEEDLES: 1 – 40” (100 cm) US 5 (3.75 mm) circular.
NOTIONS: 2 stitch markers, tapestry needle.
SIZE: 43” (109.25 cm) across, 19” (48.25 cm) deep, 32.5” (82.5 cm) diagonal, after blocking.
SKILLS: Simple increases.
SUMMIT SCARF:
The Summit Scarf by Kate Gagnon Osborn is a long rectangular scarf knit using 3 strands of Road to China Lace held together. As the scarf is worked, the colors are switched out, creating a lovely ombre effect. Designed to use the most of each skein, the result is a large, cosy wrap destined to keep out even the coldest winter chill.

GAUGE: 19 sts + 36 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Garter St, after blocking.
