Norah Gaughan is known for her love of cables and intricate stitch patterns inspired by natural elements – her book Knitting Nature, is a beloved classic – and her newest design and class with Creativebug is no exception!
From Norah: “One my favorite things I like to do is to design with cables, to draw sinuous lines with cables. This project really takes advantage of these curvy lines.”
Her hat design for Creativebug uses Terra in Belladonna uses a plethora of knitting techniques to amazing effect. A super stretchy cast-on is followed by a textured twisted rib and a unique cable chart. In the class, Norah goes over how to read cable charts, both flat and in the round.

• 2 skeins of The Fibre Company Terra in Belladonna (40% baby alpaca / 40% merino wool / 20% silk; 98 yards / 50 grams)
• Size US 6 (4 mm) 16″ (40 cm) circular needle
• Size US 8 (5 mm) 16″ (40 cm) circular needle and set of double-pointed needles (if working in the round)
• Cable needle, Stitch markers, Tapestry needle
