Independent Designer Feature: Moto Jacket by Hannah Fettig

By Kate Gagnon Osborn on August 8, 2014October 8, 2020

Hannah Fettig is at it again, this time with a lovely motorcycle jacket-inspired cardigan designed in one of our favorite sweater yarns, Savannah.

From Hannah:” This top down cardigan can be worn three different ways – buttoned all the way up with a sculptural collar, partially buttoned with a wide collar or swingy and open. How will you wear it?”

• chest circumference: 33 (36, 39, 42, 45) [48, 51, 54, 57]” / 84 (91.5, 99, 106.5, 114.5)[122, 129.5, 137, 145] cm; sample shown in 36” / 91.5cm with no ease
• yarn: 9 (9, 10, 11, 12)[13, 14, 15, 16] skeins The Fibre Company Savannah (50% wool, 20% cotton, 15% linen,15% soya; 160 yds / 50 gram skein) in Cabernet
• needles: US 5 / 3.75mm 32” circular and set of double-pointed needle (dpns)
• notions: stitch markers, stitch holders or waste yarn, locking stitch markers, tapestry needle, 11 (11, 11, 11, 12)[12, 13, 13, 13] .5″ / 13mm buttons, sewing needle and thread
• gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4” / 10cm in St st

In honor of the pattern release, we’re delighted to offer a giveaway of Savannah in the color of your choice to knit the Moto Jacket! So, grab a copy of the pattern, and leave a comment here stating your favorite color of Savannah and how you would weart the jacket – collar fully buttoned, collar opened, or as a swing coat. The contest will be open from today until Thursday, August 15th, midnight EST. Good luck!

My favorite color of Savannah is woodsmoke. I will wear my Moto Jacket with the collar fully buttoned, so it is sculptural.
What a great piece for fall!

I love the look of the fully buttoned Moto jacket, but it’s a hard call choosing between Woodsmoke and Cabernet. I guess I’d go for woodsmoke, but I can’t wait to see these colors in person.

Love! I’d wear it fully buttoned. Love that funnel neck. Perhaps a bit boring, but I’d love to make this up in natural to replace an old J.Crew moto-style sweater I have worn to death (it’s definitely past its prime)!

I would wear the motto jacket in all three style options. There are so many beautiful colours to choose from, but I would pick Cabernet as I don’t have any sweaters in a colour like that already.

Sycamore is such a classic color which can be for formal or casual attire. I would normally wear the Moto Jacket fully buttoned up to show off the clean lines and polished look of this hand-knit garment. If it’s a bit warm, I would unbutton it and wear it swing style to cool down a bit. This garment is so chic and versatile!
