While most Americans (and stores!) are reeling from Black Friday, we’ve discovered another tradition that we can really get behind. #GivingTuesday, started by NYC’s 92nd street Y last year, has since become a National movement.
The idea: along with your holiday shopping buying gifts for those you love, you can also choose to give back to those who really need it. Last year on Giving Tuesday, over $10 million was donated to over 2,000 non-profits. This year promises to increase that benchmark and we’d like to be a part of it! In honor of the last week’s lovely Thanksgiving feasts, we encourage you to consider making a donation to a local food bank in your area.
Below is a list to food banks all over the United States. If you’d like to make a more general contribution, you can also donate directly to Feeding America.
Philadelphia / New York City / Baltimore / Sioux City / Omaha / San Francisco / San Diego / Chicago / Orlando / Seattle
And, bonus, if time and transportation are a problem, many sites also offer online food donations.
Happy Giving!
