We'll See You at TNNA: Part Three, Navia!

Our 10th Anniversary Year has been filled with new adventures, and this summer and fall we're thrilled to be bringing you lots of new products we feel good about. In between developing the Kelbourne Woolens line of yarns, this season we are happy to be adding more yarns to our BC Garn offerings for fall, and bringing a new line to the North American market from the Faroe Islands, Navia!  TNNA is a industry-only trade show that happens twice a year, and it's our opportunity to show our retailers what we have available for them for the upcoming season. We will be in Booth 1013 and if you're at the show be sure to drop in and say, "Hello!"

Navia

The stories we tell and the community of craft.
Navia is a Faroese wool with a story to tell - a story of Nordic and islander tradition and craft. From Tradition – a rugged yarn for hard working seafarers, to Uno – a light and soft yarn, perfect for delicate heirlooms for home and baby, Navia yarns tell the story of the Faroe Islands.

Navia’s story will resonate with the N. American market. It is the story yarn tells, and the risk of losing the long forgotten traditions, that pulls knitters in and makes them listen. American and Canadian knitters are drawn to Fair Isle jumpers, Icelandic lopapeysa, Swedish Bohus sweaters, and Estonian mittens – projects in yarns from places rich in crafting traditions. Navia patterns and yarns will appeal to a niche market searching for history and connection, and the competitive retail pricing, along with the dedication to the local yarn shops, will bring the yarns to the forefront - beyond the allure of their Nordic designs.

Through the offering of yarns and pattern books in English to the N. American market, along with promotion of featured projects and knit-alongs hosted online by Kelbourne Woolens and our partners, we can foster a sense of connection to this tiny island many, many miles away.

Navia yarns contain blends of Australian lambswool, Shetland, and Faroese wool as well as cotton and silk. The range consists of 1-ply, 2-ply, and 3-ply knitting yarns, sock yarn and a traditional Faroese yarn, aptly named Tradition. The Navia designs take inspiration from the traditional Faroese knitting culture, mixed with modern style trends. Navia pattern books will be available through Navia stockists in the fall, so stay tuned! You can view all the yarns here

Kelbourne Woolens is proud to be partnering with Navia to introduce these yarns, patterns, and stories to North American knitters. Coming September 2018.

We'll See You at TNNA: Part Two, BC Garn

Our 10th Anniversary Year has been filled with new adventures, and this summer and fall we're thrilled to be bringing you lots of new products we feel good about. In between developing the Kelbourne Woolens line of yarns, this season we are happy to be adding more yarns to our BC Garn offerings for fall, and bringing a new line to the North American market from the Faroe Islands, Navia!  TNNA is a industry-only trade show that happens twice a year, and it's our opportunity to show our retailers what we have available for them for the upcoming season. BC Garn, a family owned Danish yarn company, was founded in 1972 as Væveværkstedet i Barrit. Their initial focus on high-quality weaving yarns has evolved into a line of luxury organic and ecologically minded hand knitting yarns, offered at an affordable and competitive price.

BC Garn is known for quality yarns, and many are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) - the highest international standard for organic fiber production.

Bio Shetland

We have a new yarn to offer for early fall from BC Garn. Bio Shetland is a GOTS Certified 100% organic wool yarn. Bio Shetland is an homage to the classic Shetland 2-ply fingering and is perfect for colorwork.

Note: It is not wool from Shetland sheep, nor is it spun on the Shetland Islands. GOTS certification means that every step, from the farm to the warehouse must meet GOTS standards. There are currently no GOTS certified Shetland flocks or processing facilities.

Bio Shetland is a soft, organic, beautifully heathered wool yarn. Each color contains many shades, giving a distinctive depth to the final product. The yarn is perfect for kids and adult garments and is ideal for cables, lace, and Fair Isle. Bio Shetland works well on the loom as well as the knitting machine.

Bio Shetland is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS certification requires that all stages of the production are ecologically, environmentally, and ethically sustainable from start to finish. The growing conditions, dye processes, waste water treatment, and fair and ethical working conditions must meet GOTS standards. GOTS is the only internationally recognized organic certification.

We are also pleased to be adding two new BC Garn yarns for Fall as well, Sarah Tweed and Semilla Melange. Come and see them for the FIRST TIME in booth 1013!

Sarah Tweed by BC Garn combines the best of all worlds: Noble mulberry silk for a light sheen and softness, wool for elasticity, volume, and good thermal properties. The tweed-like tone-on-tone appearance results from the addition of 10% silk noil. The perfect year-round yarn with a striking tweed look. I can't wait to reknit Beech Hill in this yarn!

Semilla Melange

191 yards (175 meters) / 50 gm skein

Semilla Melange is Semilla's woolen-spun cousin, and the first BC Garn yarn to be GOTS certified. Light and airy, soft and lofty, Semilla Melange is a beautiful heather yarn perfect for sweaters. Semilla Melange also felts beautifully. There's a Bibbe sweater in my fall knitting queue with this yarn!

Mojave Yarn Postcard_Front_Kelbourne Woolens.jpg

We are excited to introduce our third Kelbourne Woolens branded yarn, Mojave (pron. mo-HA-vay), to the market. Debuting on the Summer Solstice (June 21st), this yarn celebrates warm weather and long, sunny days.

Meghan’s love of cellulose-based fibers led to the development of Mojave. It is a sport weight yarn, consisting of five sets of very fine 2-plys. The result is a lightweight yarn that is strong and smooth with great stitch definition. This pima cotton and linen blend is as pleasant to knit with as it is to wear, and, as a bonus, it can be machine-washed!
