Vintage Modern Knits Preview!

On August 21st we received word that our forthcoming book, Vintage Modern Knits, was available for pre-order from Amazon. Now, it is also available for pre-order from Interweave Press--complete with a preview. We are so happy to be able to share some of the projects and images from the book. There are 19 projects in all, a mixture of accessories and sweaters. All of the projects are designed by us -- Kate Gagnon Osborn and Courtney Kelley -- and all are designed for  The Fibre Company yarns.

The cover features the Adelaide Yoke Pullover, designed by Kate.  The sweater is knit in Terra with yarrow as the main color.  The soft feminine hues of the fair isle pattern are a nice contrast to the natural sheep tones common on Icelandic yoke sweaters.  Waist shaping and short rows at the back create a flattering fit on this simple construction.

The table of contents features, from the top, Margrethe Faroese Shawl, designed by Kate in Road to China Light; Whitby Stockings, designed by Courtney in Canopy Fingering; and the Rhodes Point Gansey, designed by Courtney in Road to China Worsted.  All of our projects feature a modern spin on a traditional technique.  The gansey, for instance, utilizes traditional gansey construction but includes some updating and features a set in sleeve with short rows at the gusset to create a more flattering shape, while maintaining the integrity of the traditional gusset and sleeves.

A great layering piece for trans-seasonal wear, the Brigid Jacket, knit out of Terra in color Olive Leaf, was designed by Courtney.  The Brigid Jacket is easy to knit, with minimal shaping, and it's cropped fit makes it a fun piece to wear.

Clockwise from top left are:  Yvette Roositud Beret by Kate in Road to China Light, Erin Cardigan by Kate in Savannah, Ginger Lace Cardigan by Courtney in Road to China Light, Abigail Handwarmers by Courtney in Canopy Fingering, Tilghman Island Pullover by Courtney in Savannah and the Ajiro Scarf by Courtney in Road to China Light.  Kate's rooistud hat uses the traditional Estonian technique of wrapping stitches as you knit to create a design.  Done in one place as a graphic motif, she reinterprets the traditional use of the technique.
